Both writing samples were narratives and were scored with the same rubric.
Students
used the topic of their choice and were not given direct assistance. Moreover, it is worth
mentioning that it is extremely difficult to receive a 3 on a writing piece using this rubric. If I
could display the actual writing samples, it is possible one would notice more growth than shown
in the results below for both groups.
