G. Esemuratova entered the literature with such stories as «Keste»
(«Lace»), «Qalmurat júrgish» («Halmurat Walker»), «Ayday qız» («A girl like the moon»).
Nowadays, her work has included more than 50 novels and stories, more than 10 novellas, 3
novels-memoirs and two works of the epic cycle. She published many journalistic articles and notes
on various topics.
The story is the main genre of narrative prose. It differs with a small volume, with a fast-
developed storyline. It tells about several, but more often one, important episode from a person’s
life. Guided by these characteristic features, we will try to analyze the main idea of the works of G.
Esemuratova, based on the descriptions of the fate of the hero, the events of his life, through his
actions and deeds, relationships with other characters.

It often happens that in some genres lyricism prevails in depicting the state of mind of a hero
or character, while in others more attention is paid to the narration of events. And for the story to be
loved by readers, it must be dramatic, as well as the presence of sharp conflicts that are
characteristic of a good story.
When writing this work, we relied on the scientific conclusions of such scientists as A.B.
Esin [3], N.D. Tamarchenko [4.400-401], G.N. Pospelov [5.410], T. Boboev [6.470-472], K.
Zharimbetov, B. Genzhemuratov [7.186], as well as articles from various dictionaries relating to the
theory of literature, in particular, genre features of art works.
In all the above-mentioned works, emphasis is placed on the fact that the characteristic
features of this narrative genre are taken not as a system of events, but as the creation of a
character’s character. In such stories of the writer as «Jańa jıl qarsańında» (lit., «On the eve of the
New Year»), «Jaralı jawınger» (lit., «Wounded warrior»), based on dramatic conflict events, the
character of the hero is skillfully revealed.
In the story «Jańa jıl qarsańında» («On New Year’s Eve»), Omirbek is the main character.
All other characters help to understand the character of the main hero. The plot is built around one
episode: the main hero’s wife dies. The leading employees of his institution, ignoring this tragedy,
put psychological pressure on him and his children. The main problem is the assessment of a person
according to the place in society that he occupies, the lawlessness of those in power. Human life is
like a toy in the hands of those in power.
In the story “Jaralı jawınger” (“Wounded Warrior”), two heroes are participants in the war:
one is the author of the article, the other is the editorial staff Nadir aga
.
A small conflict arises
between them, through which the author masterfully reveals two types of character, which plays a
leading role in the reliable transmission of the events of the narrative. The dramatic nature of the
events conveyed in the story is vividly and impressively shown.
In the stories “Ayday qız” (“A girl like the moon”), “Íshqı bólinbese” (“If feelings are
unrequited ...”), “Sol Tanya qayda eken” (“Where is this Tanya ?!”), “Náreste” (“Child ”), “Mayek
borek ham kempir” (“Egg dumplings and an old woman”), “Bilmegen jerińe qk atpa” (“Do not
shoot anywhere”), “Isenim” (“Faith”), for the most part, there is a description of the fate of the hero,
his internal experiences and emotional state. In these stories, the description of events fades into the
background, and the reader begins to be interested in the fate of the hero. Despite the fact that these
stories use a narrative device, the main attention of the author is directed to the depiction of the fate
of the hero, the writer’s concern about the fate of his/her hero.
The story “Ayday qız” (“A girl like the moon”) tells about the fate of a girl who put family
values above all and idolized her husband, but is faced with the arrogant attitude of her husband
Zhetkergen, as a result of which she comes to a sad state, and gradually fades like a flower.
In another story, “Bilmegen jerine oq atpa” (“Don’t shoot anywhere”), a similar plot can be
traced: the fate of the main heroine of the story, Alima, who is in distress.
And in the story “Íshqı bólinbese” (“If feelings are unrequited ...”) it is about unrequited
love. During the fire in the house, the entire face of the heroine Sulu was burned. Her husband Seit,
who did not want to live with such a «ugliness», finds an outlet on the side. The plot of the story
makes the reader think about the fate of the woman, and involuntarily evokes a feeling of
compassion for the deplorable circumstances of the heroine’s life.
In the story “Máyek bórek hám kempir” (“Egg dumplings and an old woman”), the writer
truthfully depicts the fate of a young woman, Sere, who came to her husband, who was studying in
the city. He lived with his relatives, but they do not accept their daughter-in-law, citing the fact that
they themselves can barely make ends meet. A young woman does not find a place to live, and
endures various everyday difficulties and hardships.
