Determination of Lateral Displacement in Slopes Using Newmark Analysis
In this study, permenant slope displacements due to seismic loading are investigated. In this context, static slope stability and seismic slope stability analyses are summarised and different approaches used are given.
This study uses Newmark’s method in calculation of the slope displacements. For displacement analyses, 50 strong motion records from Turkish earthquakes are used. Data which is used contains values from different earthquakes with different magnitude, distance, depth and peak accelerations. It is necessery to analyze effects of these factors to displacement of the slope.
The data is also analyzed in order to find the characteristics of the earthuake motion. The data obtained is then used to derive formulations for calculation of slope displacements. The results obtained are compared with the methods in the literature.
The results of the study reveal that slope displacements calculated by Newmark’s method can be used in microzonation studies.
