Generations of technological advancement have occurred in the
industrial process control. Today, wireless technology is at the heart of this
evolution, given that it has progressed to the level where it can be used
securely in industrial process control and applications such as monitoring
and asset management. The major limitations of wired control such as cost,
time, vast number of wires required for installation and lengthy maintenance
period are eliminated by adopting wireless control. Wireless communication
is opted for in mobile operations when the requirements include rapid
deployment and flexible installation. Networks of wireless devices such as
sensors and actuators can facilitate monitoring/control of dangerous and
difficult-to-access equipment and mobile robot operation in industrial
automation.
The work is aimed at establishing and configuring wireless network with
a stable communication at BHOS Emerson test rig. The field devices used
are ‘Rosemount 3051S Wireless Pressure Transmitter’ and ‘Rosemount 648
Wireless Temperature Transmitter’, which form the nodes of the
WirelessHART mesh network. The connection between the network and host
application is implemented via ‘Wireless Gateway 1420’, which gives the
DeltaV system access to the wireless network via Modbus wired connection.
WirelessHART is the industry's first open-standard wireless technology.
It extends the HART Protocol's capabilities to wireless alongside with
remaining compatible with current HART devices, tools and commands. It
uses 15 distinct channels and works in the 2.4 GHz band at a maximum data
rate of 250 kbps. WirelessHART employs a flat mesh network in which each
