Question:
Explain and give examples of intensive and extensive listening.

Amplification: For this question, you need to explain what both intensive and extensive listening mean, then you need to provide an example for each. This could be a specific activity, or just a very general one. Make sure to explain them separately as they are completely different activities! For a perfect answer, mention which one naturally comes first in a listening lesson.

Describe the features of:
i) listening for gist
ii) listening for detail

Amplification: To pass this question, you need to describe the features of the listening sub-skills; listening for gist, and listening for detail. Remember to explain them separately, and just to give a very general overview of what they are, what they involve, how they help learners and which one should come first in a listening lesson.

Question:
Evaluate different types of listening activities and materials.

Amplification: Once again we have the common verb ‘evaluate’, so make sure that your answer involves opinions, strengths and weaknesses, or other ‘critical’ language. To pass this question, you need to choose one listening activity, say what it is, then write a short evaluation regarding how effective it is. Then, do exactly the same for a listening material - choose one, tell us what it is, and then evaluate it.


Note: It is very important that you evaluate at least one listening activity and one listening material - please do not evaluate two activities and no materials, or two materials and no activities.
