Treaty of Turkmenchay

Article VII — As soon as His Majesty the Shah of Iran has received the favor of appointing his Majesty's son, Prince Abbas Mirza, as his heir and successor to the throne, His Majesty the Emperor of All Russia, in order to clearly demonstrate to His Majesty the Shah of Iran their friendly relations and their desire to help confirm this order of succession then, in the person of His Highness Prince Abbas Mirza, he undertakes to consider him as the heir and successor of the throne of Iran, and after his ascension to the throne, he will be considered the legitimate ruler of that state.

Article IX — All His Holiness the Emperor of Russia and His Holiness the Shah of Iran, desiring by all means to establish the peace and friendship so happily restored between them, the ambassadors of the high palaces (governments) sent to this or that state for the performance of temporary assignments or for permanent residence, they mutually agree that their ministers and chargé d'affaires should be received with respect and (each) separately, in accordance with their rank, the honor of the high parties to the agreement, the sincere friendship that unites them, and the local customs. A ceremony in this context will be decided for this or that party to follow with a special protocol.

Article VIII — Russian merchant ships have the right to sail freely in the Caspian Sea and along its shores, and at the same time to approach them; in case of shipwrecks, they should be helped in every possible way in Iran. In this way, Iranian commercial ships are also given the right to sail in the Caspian Sea as before and to approach the shores of Russia, where in case of shipwrecks, they should be mutually assisted with all kinds of means. As for warships, as in the past, only warships under the Russian flag can sail in the Caspian Sea; for this reason, the previous exclusive right is now given to them, and it is confirmed that no country except Russia can have military ships in the Caspian Sea.
