Q233. What would you change about your country if you were
given the opportunity?
A. Sample Answer
If given the opportunity, I would like to change my country’s past. To start off, my country was
deeply involved in the slave trade not too long ago. This is one of the things I am most ashamed of
about my country. Not only did we profit off of the slavery of an entire race of people, but we treated
them terribly as well. We denied them basic human rights and beat them horribly. Many slaves were
malnourished, overworked, and treated like animals. Just thinking about it sickens me. Furthermore, I
would like to change my country’s response to immigration during World War II. In an attempt to
keep America prosperous, my nation rejected several refugees seeking shelter. What’s even worse is
that most of those refugees were facing persecution in their own countries that ultimately resulted in
death. If I could go back in time, I would have the United States take all of those people in with open
arms. So, although it’s not possible, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to change my
country’s

(4) Looking back on it, I wish we didn’t given in so earily.

Q234. Do you agree with the following statement? An eye for an
eye. Why or why not?
A. Sample Answer
Although “an eye for an eye” may seem like an appealing approach, I don’t think it is a practical
philosophy. First of all, as another old saying explains, two wrongs don’t make a right. No matter
what anyone does to you, you should not retaliate in the same manner. The satisfaction you may
temporarily feel will soon dissipate and you will most likely feel bad about your childish behavior.
It is better to take alternative steps to solving your problem rather than retaliating in the same way in
which you were wronged. To continue, no one is ever justified in directly bringing harm onto
someone. It is not your decision to say whether or not the other person suffers. The justice you seek
for an act done against you should always include a third party. That third party will have an
unbiased approach and invoke the appropriate solution to the issue. You don’t have the authority to
directly harm any other being. Thus, I disagree with the statement “an eye for an eye.”
