EVALUATION OF RESISTANCE TO BROWN RUST OF WHEAT ( T. DURUM DESF., T. AESTIVUM L.) GENOTYPES IN ARTIFICIAL BACKGROUND AND SCREENING FOR RESISTANCE GENES M.A.Abbasov 1,2 1 Genetic Resources Institute of ANAS 2 Baku State University Resistance to brown rust of 121 National genebank accessions and 36 varieites
of durum and bread wheat belonged to different botanical varieites was evaluated
under greenhouse conditions and screened for 16 resistance genes (

fungus (
Puccinia triticina ) causing brown rust were used to assess the disease
resistance. As a result of analysis relation between resistance to brown rust and
botanical varieital traits, specially spike colour in durum wheat genotypes was
observed. It was determined that brown rust resistance of accessions with white spike
was higher than samples with red spike. Durum wheat accessions was determined to
be more resistant to brown rust in compare with bread wheats. For the first time Lr34
gene was revealed in 12 bread wheat accessions, while T1RS·1BL rye translocation
was detrmined in 9 bread wheat genotypes. According to the results of
phytopathological and molecular analyzes trait collection comprised from 25
accessions was created, that can be recommended to use as an initial material in
breeding for creation of new varieties.
