5 Assessment structure
Introduction
BTEC International Level 3 qualifications are assessed using a combination of
internal
assessments
, which are set and marked by teachers, and
Pearson Set Assignments, which
are set by Pearson and marked by teachers.
•
Mandatory units will be assessed by Pearson Set Assignments.
•
Optional units are internally assessed or assessed by Pearson Set Assignments.
In developing an overall plan for delivery and
assessment for the programme, you will
need to consider the order in which you deliver units, whether delivery is over short-
or long periods and when assessment can take place.
We have addressed the need to ensure that the time allocated to final assessment of
units is reasonable so that there is sufficient time for teaching and learning, formative
assessment and development of transferable skills.
In administering an internal assignment or
a Pearson Set Assignment, the centre
needs to be aware of the specific procedures and policies that apply, for example to
registration, entries and results. An
overview, with signposting to relevant documents,
is given in
Section 7 Administrative arrangements
.
