2.2. Classification of multimedia educational materials
Multimedia educational facilities have a multi-layered character. On the one hand, according to the functions performed, they can be attributed to educational publications and, accordingly, the classification principles used for educational books can be used. On the other hand, they belong to the category of electronic publications and the principles of classification of electronic publications can be applied to them.
There are several approaches to the classification of multimedia teaching aids, such as:

  on the organization of the text;

  by the nature of the information provided;
  
• 
  in the form of presentation;
  
• 
  for the intended purpose;
  
• 
  by the presence of a printed equivalent;

  by distribution technology;
  
• 
  by the nature of interaction between the user and the electronic publication;

Most often, such tools are classified according to their functional or methodological purpose.
Classification of multimedia teaching aids by functional purpose:

  teaching , presenting educational information and guiding learning, based on the knowledge available to students, individual capabilities and interests;

  diagnostic , designed to determine the level of training and intelligence of students;
  
• 
  instrumental, designed for the design of software, the preparation of teaching materials;
  
• 
  managers designed to manage the activities of trainees in the performance of work;
  
• 
  administrative, designed for the automated process of organizing training;
  
• 
  gaming , providing various types of gaming and educational and gaming activities.
  

According to the methodological purpose, the following types of multimedia teaching aids are distinguished:

  training (simulators) designed to process skills and abilities while repeating and consolidating the studied material;

  demonstration, designed for visual presentation of educational material, visualization of the studied patterns, the relationship between objects;

  gaming , designed to "play" the educational situation in order to make the best decision or develop the best action strategy for the development of thinking;

  leisure , designed for extracurricular work in order to develop attention, reaction and creative thinking.
  

Electronic publications are divided by structure into:

• 
  one-volume electronic edition - an electronic edition issued on one machine-readable medium;
  
• 
  multi-volume electronic publication - an electronic publication consisting of two or more numbered parts, each of which is presented on an independent machine-readable medium, representing a single whole in content and design;
  
• 
  electronic series - a serial electronic publication, including a set of volumes united by a common concept, subject matter, purpose, published in the same design.
  

Educational electronic publications on the organization of the text are divided into mono editions and collections . The mono edition includes one work, and the collection includes several works of educational literature. A textbook, study guide, course and lecture notes can be published only in the form of mono editions, and a workshop, anthology, a book for reading - in the form of collections. As for curricula, curricula, guidelines and manuals, assignments for practical exercises, they are issued mainly in the form of mono editions.
