5- Nowadays body piercing is turning into a popular method for makeup,
and more and more people pierce their body for beauty purposes. In
your opinion what are the harmful effects of body piercing on our
health?
Body piercing is commonly done all over the world. Everything from ears,
nose, eyebrows, tongue, genitals, lips, naval, and nipples are being pierced.
People are mostly unaware of the dire consequences of body piercing and
they do not realize the complications that can occur.
Depending on where and who pierces a person's body, certain
complications
can occur. If the piercer is not experienced, they may not know or understand
the necessary health and safety precautions needed to avoid infections.
Adolescents and young adults under the age of 18 are piercing each other
without this knowledge because most places will not pierce them without a
parental consent. If instruments are not properly sterilized
or the environment
is not clean, infection may occur. Infections that can
arise are HIV, hepatitis
and many others.
Another complication that can arise is scarring. Piercing a certain part of the
body for many times ultimately results in mutation of the skin
cells which in
turn will lead to an ugly growth of skin cells distorting the shape of the skin.
Unfortunately such scars never get healed. Moreover, the quality of the
jewelry, such as brass-plated
costume jewelry, can cause complications such
as an allergic reaction or infection. These reactions and infections can later
lead to severe skin problems resulting in skin cancer.
Besides there may be psychological complications. if a
person has a negative
experience with body piercing they may also suffer from psychosocial
problems. In most cases as people grow older, they regret having pierced
their body; however, since removing a tattoo is costly and
most people cannot
afford the medical operations, they have to put up with it forever.
In conclusion, I believe one can enhance one’s beauty using many other
methods which are less harmful. I think considering
the complications which
can result from body piercing, teenagers must avoid such cruel methods.
