89 7- Racism is becoming a widespread phenomenon and some people take pride in their racist views. Why should we avoid this problem? How can we help solve the problem? Racism denies human beings the basic equality and dignity which as children
of God we deserve. While there are people who think they are superior to
other human beings, I think racism is a sin and we must completely avoid it.
Racism is a sin. It is a sin because it divides our community, blots out the
image of God among the inhabitants of the planet and violates basic human
pride. Racism is the sin that says some human beings are innately superior
and others basically inferior because of the colour of their skin. Our holy book
clearly states that all human beings are equal in the eyes of God and that the
ones with a stronger faith are better valued; therefore, if we consider
ourselves as the followers of our holy prophet, we must not judge a person
based on his or her colour or race.
In order to solve the problem of racism, we must be aware of its numerous
forms. I have always viewed racism as being, whites against blacks, because
that is what I was taught by those in authority , the media and society overall,
even my history classes at school have caused me to have this narrow-
minded view. Research, however has caused me to think differently, I have
read stories, newspaper articles and watched interviews on television,
regarding racism, and I have discovered that racism is not a “white thing”,
instead, it is a “human thing. Therefore, to address racism, we need to
recognize two things: that it exists in a variety of forms, some more subtle and
others more obvious; and that there is something we can do about it even if
we realize that what we say and the steps we take will not result in an
immediate solution to a problem that spans generations.
In conclusion I believe that we must tackle this issue with certainty and our
small contributions will ultimately help eliminate the problem.
