Öz 
Tasavvufta, kulun kötü huyları ve çirkin vasıfları, kötü his ve huyların mahalli şeklinde tanımlanan 
nefs, mutasavvıfların ilk dönemden itibaren ilgi gösterdikleri bir konudur. Mutasavvıflar, seyr u sülûk 
eğitiminde nefsin bilinmesi ve tezkiye edilmesinin manevî terakkî için gerekli olduğunu söylerler. Bu 
eğitimde sâlike rehber olan mürşîd-i kâmiller, nefsi tanımlamaya çalışmışlar ve onu edindiği 
özelliklere bağlı olarak farklı kategorilere ayırmışlardır. Mürşîd-i kâmillerin mürîdlerine yaptırdığı 
aşamalı eğitimin amacı, nefsin kötü sıfatlarından uzaklaşması ve iyi sıfatlarının kalıcı hale gelmesidir.
Neticede insan benliğini dönüştürüp ilahî tecellîlere mazhar olur ve hakikatı keşfedebelir. Bu makale 
XVIII. yüzyıl Osmanlı mutasavvıflarından Kösec Ahmed Trabzonî’nin, nefsin tekâmül sürecinde 
geçirdiği aşamalardaki tasavvufî düşüncelerini konu edinmektedir.

Abstract 
In sufism, the term nafs which is defined as the place of bad habits, wrong actions, bad feeling and 
the idiosyncrasies of the man is an issue Sufis have shown interesting since the first period of Sufi 
tradition. Sufis say that the nafs should be known and purified for the spiritual development of the 
individual during the sayr-u suluk. In this education Murshid-i Kamils who guide to devotees have 
tried to identify the the nafs and seperated it into different categories depending on the features it 
has acquired. The purpose of the staggered training that Murshid-i kamils have their murids made, 
is to depart from the bad attributes of the nafs and to make permanent good attributes of them. As 
a result if man convert his ego, he can be the recipient of the manifestations of divine blessings and 
discover the truth. The the subject of this article is the 18th century Ottoman mystic Kosec Ahmed 
Trabzoni’s views of his stages in the process of nafs evolution.
