7.1. The nature of management decisions and requirements for them

Decision is the choice of a specific way of work that needs to be done. In other words, a decision is to come to a stop or a certain opinion in choosing one or another path. Each of us makes tens-hundreds of such decisions in a day, and thousands-thousands in a lifetime. For example, choosing which clothes to wear from the clothes rack, choosing which food from the menu, the type of transport to get to the destination, choosing a profession, etc. We can give many such examples.

The need to make a decision arises as a result of the fact that the current situation does not correspond to the situation that should be. For example, a price fixed by the state cannot fulfill its function in a market economy. Therefore, a decision is made to liberalize prices.

Decision-making_opportunities'>Decision-making opportunities arise when there are alternative ways, and the leader chooses one of them, the most appropriate. In order to find the most effective option of the decision, the leader should follow the proverb "seven measures and one person".

Decision-making is a constant concern of the manager. The manager makes decisions on a wide variety of issues - production and personnel , organizational and economic issues. The manager can take the decision on the basis of individual leadership, involving assistants and the public. Any management decision is appropriate only if it is effective.

Decision-making is the process of choosing the most appropriate decision from the available options within the scope of the organization's authority and effectiveness in order to achieve the goal in front of the head of the organization.

In the conditions of the market economy, the importance of the decision taken by the leader increases. According to economists, one decision made by the head of the department affects the work of the department for five to six months. The wisdom of the decision depends on several factors. The main ones are:

  • completeness and quality of information in the decision-making process;

  • personal quality of the decision-making leader;

  • the level of reasonable resolution of organizational issues in decision-making (for example, the involvement of experts in decision-making, the level of perfection of the decision-making system, the level of decision-making, control and implementation, etc.).

Relying on certain principles when choosing the right decision and taking into account the requirements for the decision, aligning the purpose of the decision with the economic goal, determining the compatibility of the interests of the labor team with the interests of society, economical use of labor and material resources, technical, economic and social development it is necessary to take into account the trends.

Summarizing the above, management decisions must meet the following requirements (Table 9):
