Эпитеты бывают общеупотребимые и авторские, уникальные. Общеупотребимыми называют те эпитеты,
которые уже давно закрепились в сознании многих людей за определёнными словами. Авторские эпитеты
встречаются довольно редко и придают дополнительную выразительность.
В произведении «Американская трагедия» Т.Драйзера очень часто используются эпитеты для большей
выразительности языка романа.Например: «Until this very day, because of Clyde's unbroken devotion to her, she had not
even troubled to think there could be any other girl to whom his attentions could mean anything».Еще одним примером
эпитета являются следующее словосочетание: «And although, because at first, even on the third day on reaching the
factory, she imagined that she might be exaggerating the danger and that it was perhaps some physical flaw or lapse that
might still overcome itself, still by late afternoon no evidence of any change coming to her, she began to be a prey to the
most nameless terrors».
