among the most ancient nations of the world. In terms of its formation period, the history of Azerbaijani language goes back
to ancient times. The history of language is impossible to be imagined apart from nation’s history.
Outstanding representatives of various countries repeatedly confessed the fact that Azerbaijani language is amongst the
excellent world languages. Great Russian scientist M.Y. Lermontov compared the role and position of Azerbaijani language
as equal to French language which was widespread in Europe in the 19
th
century and highly evaluated the language as being
used throughout the entire Eurasia. Currently being used by millions of Azerbaijanis as a mean of communication,
historically, Azerbaijani language wasn’t only widespread in Caucasian region, but also used to be the common language of
different nations in different periods.
Azerbaijani language has gained worldwide reputation. Azerbaijani language is taught and learned at educational
institutions and scientific centers of all developed countries. Worth mentioning that, Azerbaijani language is instructed at
six universities (Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, New York, San Francisco and Harvard) of US.
We know that other nations are interested in our language, literature, and culture. Doctorate dissertations, scientific
articles and monographs reflecting graces of Azerbaijani language have been published.
Generally, language learning commences with alphabet. Afterwards, vital knowledge on phonetic, morphological, and
syntactic structure of language is provided.
This method is applied in teaching of Azerbaijani language to foreign students. With its smoothness and simplicity, the
language containing national-moral values of Azerbaijani people is highly appreciated by foreign students.
The methods which are used in teaching of Azerbaijani language to foreign students are as follows:
To use oral folk literature, being the product of many centuries, in teaching of Azerbaijani language.
To show movies demonstrating the history, culture, and literature of Azerbaijan and ask questions based on these
movies.
To create various dialogues about everyday situations.
To teach frequently used vocabulary of language.
To explain terminology, related to students’ field of study, in Azerbaijani language.
To use language means purposefully.
Besides language factors, social aspects involve in creation of functional style, too. Bound explanation of functional
style with other sciences.
Reference to literary style samples.
To acquaint with literary norms of Azerbaijani language used in various fields of human activities.
To allocate a part of lesson to read Azerbaijani literature and discuss it during lesson process.
Formal communication language within institutions and organizations is official language of the country. In
international relations, the country is represented in its official language. Therefore, writing style of official documents
is of great importance.
Language is the main mean of communication among people. It is not possible to discriminate people from society.
Language belongs to society since it’s considered as a social event. The books we read, dialogues we make, the movies we
watch and the folk songs we listen to show us that language isn’t out of society. Therefore, the use of methods that are dealt
with in teaching of the Azerbaijan language is the most impressive way in teaching.
The way of recognizing any nation is closely connected with its rich culture and literature. Thus it shows that how
necessary the teaching of Azerbaijan language is in the teaching of the richness of the culture and literature of our country.
