shed crocodile tears-timsah göz yaşları tökmək; Achilles heel- Axillesdabanı(zəif nöqtə).
2.Partial Equivalence (Similarity in meaning not in form)
This strategy is about translating an SL idiomatic expression into its equivalent TL idiom which conveys the same
meaning, but has a different form. In this respect, it is advised that the translator owns a good cultural background of the
idiomatic expressions he may be faced with, because it can help him to guess the meaning of the idiom and find similar one
in TL. Examples: you scratch my back and I will scratch yours-Ələliyuyarəldəüzü; It is no use crying over spilt milk–
Keçənəgüzəştdeyərlər; as a last resort-darayaqda
3 Paraphrasing
As the name itself indicates this strategy is about giving a brief explanation of the meaning behind the idiomatic
expression. This is used when the translator fails to apply the first 2 strategies, that is, he has no other option but paraphrase.
It is to be noted that this strategy is best applied to such idioms which are less culture- specific than others. Otherwise, the
cultural flavor will be lost.(right away-dərhal etc.)
