rejection, defeat, or disappointment)
After finding the meaning of the idiom, the translator encounters other difficulties while rendering it to TL. Such
difficulties include finding the most appropriate strategy for translating idioms. Three different strategies are suggested to
help the translator. It is worth noting that the first two strategies are considered more effective than the third one.
1. Total Equivalence (Form + Meaning)This kind of matching can only be used in certain occasions, for instance, when
both SL language and TL belong to the same language family. In this strategy the translator find the equivalent of the given
idiom which must be alike both in terms of the meaning and its lexical units .As many idiomatic expressions are culture-
bound, a great majority of them, in all languages, have cultural associations which make them peculiar. For example: To
