ABSTRACT M.Q.Aliyeva THE SEASONAL CYCLE OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE COLONİES POLISTES GALLICUS L. (HYMENOPTERA, VESPIDAE) UNDER NAKHCHİVAN AUTONOMOUS REPUBLIC Results of the research carried out in the Nakhchivan AR on seasonal life history of the
P.gallicus are presented in the work. It is established, that the phenology of vespa covers 3 periods -
from the moment of a nest laying up to hatching of the first individuals, from hatching of the first
individuals up to their mass emergence, decade is given when disintegration of a colony, mating of
new males and females begins.
Paper wasps (Vespidae) different feature of folding wings parallel to each other along the
abdomen. Paper wasps feed on nectar and pollen so visit flovers. They feed their larvae paralyzed or
deod insect. Solitary wasps dig burrows, or make the camera out of clay, so-called social or «paper
wasps» nest built from chewed wood. The representatives of the subfamily of social wasps
(Vespinae) are not able to allocate the wax, so build their nests from a substance similar to a thin
cardboard. This process can be seen in one of our most common species – P.gallicus. To do this, it
scrapes the old dry wood on trunks, stumps and even fences, leaving the longitudinae grooves,
Then, a specially processed and mixt it with saliva, it builds a spherical nest, which is placed on the
branches of trees, under rocks or overhanging roofs.
