The available temperature profiles within the grasp of operating companies,
allow us to understand the amount of heat that might be generated,
transferred, and produced via the wells. Henceforward, in this paper there
will be extensive research on the properties of existing wells and regarding
energy extraction techniques – a broad literature review that later will be
followed by case studies. The studies will assist to deduce the criticalness of
operational parameters, like flow rate, temperature, or pressure in
geothermal wells. This will be concluded by building a model for simulation
on thermal conductivity, finally obtaining a proper answer for the technical
and financial feasibility of the project.
Figure 18. Carnot Cycle
Regarding the practicality of the project, there are two possible
techniques to deploy. Nevertheless, the selection of the optimal approach
depends on the present circumstances in the area. By utilizing the Carnot
Cycle principle [1], it will be possible to have an increased temperature
figures at well head in comparison to bottom hole. Once, the temperature
indication is above 100 Celsius Degrees, it will be feasible to use the steam
generators in the area, to generate electricity. In other cases, if the profile is
below the vaporization limit, the heating of the nearby buildings might be
chosen as much more feasible opportunity.
For the introduced project, it was decided to analyze one of the production
sites of AzNeft – Bibiheybat OGPD. The area is well studied and there are lots
of data sets regarding the underground profiles. Near the OGPD, there is a
campus of the educational institution called Baku Higher Oil School. It might
be deduced that in both cases, depending on the well head temperature
attainable, both options of geothermal energy utilization are viable.
To summarize, the innovative approach in energy generation, will be eva-
luated for its feasibility in Bibiheybat bay, and if applicable, the results and the
regarding approach will be used for a favor of SOCAR or the campus in vicinity.
