As the pollution in every part of the world increases, the countries get into
panic to solve the problems occurred due to the garbage. So, it can be seen from
the steps taken against the rise in the pollution that the countries try to define
modern and efficient approaches against the issue. One of these methods is to
inform people to throw their rubbish to the relevant type of the cans (paper,
metal, glass, plastic and so on). Generally, our project is related to the waste
segregation by using the robotic arm which we are planning it to choose and
throw the garbage to its appropriate can automatically.
The working principle of the project is related to the vision, motion and
programmatic structure of the robot. Thus, the robot should work for dividing waste
into dry and wet products and then waste is collected at its source in each area
and separated. The way that waste is sorted must reflect local disposal systems.
In recycling process, the following categories are common, paper, metal, plastic
and so on, and we are planning robot to determine these categories, however if it
is possible, we can add more categories and features to the project. Totally, the
main aim of the project is to recognize different types of waste as sorted above
using image processing and proximity sensors. Consequently, recognized wastes
will be placed on its appropriate container. Process of placing waste will be
accomplished using robotic arm which is designed using servo motors, Arduino
board. Camera will be attached on the top part of the robotic arm for recognition.
Codes will be written over Arduino software, but some additional software in terms
of connection or additional features can be used.
Finally, the approach has been used in prestigious universities and the
output of the projects done in foreign countries is amazing, however we intend
to enhance the logic behind the process by the help of new features, such as
cost-efficiency, result accuracy and so on.
