Swimming is a fundamental life skill that plays an essential role in the physical, emotional,
and social development of children. It is, therefore, important that swimming lessons are introduced
to children at an early age. In preschool education, swimming lessons are organized and conducted
with specific characteristics that are tailored to the age, physical ability, and developmental level of
the children. This literature review aims to provide an overview of the characteristics of organizing
and conducting swimming lessons in preschool education. Swimming can improve both
psychological and physical health in children, making it an important aspect of their development.
In this methodology, we will review the literature on the psychological and physical benefits of
swimming for preschool education pupils. We synthesized the data from the selected articles to
identify the psychological and physical benefits of swimming for preschool education pupils. We
also identified the limitations of each study and the implications for future research.
Psychological Benefits
: Improved self-esteem and confidence: Swimming can help
preschool education pupils develop a sense of self-esteem and confidence as they learn new skills
and become more comfortable in the water [12],
Reduced anxiety and stress
: Swimming has been
shown to reduce anxiety and stress in children. The calming effect of water can help children feel
relaxed and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety [13],
Improved social skills
: Swimming provides
opportunities for children to interact with other children, which can help improve their social skills
and build friendships [12].
Physical Benefits:
Improved cardiovascular health: Swimming is a great cardiovascular
workout that can help improve the heart and lung function of preschool education pupils [11],
Improved muscle strength and coordination: Swimming uses almost all of the muscles in the body,
which can help improve muscle strength and coordination in preschool education pupils [11],
Improved flexibility: Swimming can help improve flexibility, as the water provides a low-impact
environment that allows children to move more freely [13].
One of the key characteristics of organizing swimming lessons in preschool education is
safety. Young children are particularly vulnerable to accidents, and swimming pools can pose a
