A Study on The Integration of Firebreaks and Fireline With Forest Roads Networks and It’s Planning and Construction (A Case Study of Gallipoly National Park )

Natural sources have been destroying continuously and rapidly in the world. Therefore, the importance of sustainable natural sources like forests has been increasing in recent years .It is known that, these conditions creates pressure on the forests.

On this occasion, it is neccessary to afforestitation and protection, rehabilitation of existance forests. Therefore, it is important to struggle with forest fires fighting on the forests.

As a known, forest fires have been damaged many forest areas with harmful factors in especially Mediterranean, Aegean and Marmara regions of Turkey. In recent years, Turkey has lost many forest areas to forest fires, and these not only result in loss of life, property, and infrastructure, but also cause deterioration in the natural environment and degrade ecosystems. Forest fire prevention and protection have been continued before, during and after the forest fire. Organization of forest fire protection will be ready to forest fire fighting every forest fire season in our country. It is necessary to interdisciplinary study on the forest fire fighting to this end. Deficiency of any discipline in the content of forest fire figth are case of unsuccessful. For example, principle rule of forest fire fighting is early intervention. Delays in early intervention on forest fire can cause negative effects on forest fire fighting and growing up forest fire. In that case, unwanted results may occur neglecting of forest transportation in forest fire fighting

  In this study, Gelibolu National Park chosen as a modelling area. Furthermore,this research describes the current status of forest roads and firebreak standards in forest fire fighting in Turkey and integration of firebreaks and forest roads. Because, this area has contained ecological, historial and cultural any values. For this reason planning and construction of forest roads and fire breaks are very important in research area.

Importance of fire breaks to early intervention on forest fire has investigated to used network analysis.

Results of network analysis determinated that forest road, fireline and firebreaks must be required planning with together. Forest roads, fireline and firebreaks must suit as its geometric standards. Furthermore, results of network analysis prove that may early interfere on forest fire area.
