UNITED NATIONS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION IN THE AREA
OF TOURISM AS A MEANS OF TOURISM INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE
SUMMARY
The UN declared the 2018 year the “International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development”.
Delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan took part in the meeting of the
ST-EP Foundation of the UN
World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on January 17-19, 2018
in the Spanish Kingdom,
the city of
Madrid. Measures were taken in the framework of cooperation, sustainable tourism with the Republic of
Azerbaijan.
In this regard, the approval of the strategic roadmap of tourism as a means of intercultural dialogue of
tourism in the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue is very important. It should be noted that the number
of tourists visiting Azerbaijan has increased by 9-11% in recent years.
At
the same time, Azerbaijan is becoming one of the intercultural and international
centers for the
development of ties between the UNWTO and Azerbaijan and for the growth of economic and cultural ties
and further development of these relations.
In recent years, Azerbaijan has hosted World Intercultural Dialogue Forums (I, II, III). Azerbaijan is
already preparing for the IV Forum. This is one of the positive trends. During the years of independence,
intercultural dialogue is developing and the process continues.
