Q162. You found $20 under your desk at school. What would you
do, tell the teacher or keep it?
A. Sample Answer
If I found $20 under my desk at school, I would tell the teacher, without hesitation. My mother
raised me to be a truthful person, and I would have a guilty conscience if I stole the money and didn’t
say anything to my teacher. First, my mother raised me to be a truthful person. Therefore, if I took the
money, I would be going against the way my mother reared me. Disappointing my mother would be
very difficult to do, because she worked so hard to teach us the difference between right and wrong.
Stealing somebody else’s money, even if we are unsure of whose money it is, is wrong. Also, my
conscience would eat away at me for the rest or the school year, and years to come. By telling the
truth to the teacher, she will be able to find the proper owner of the money, or judiciously distribute
the money for a good cause. If I don’t fess up and be honest, I would feel guilty and it would be
unbearable to look at people in the eyes. Since stealing is wrong, my mother taught me better, and I
would have a guilty conscience, I would without a doubt tell my teacher about a $20 bill that was
under my desk and was not mine.
