of a strong family is the ability to communicate positively among each other and
maintain it. Effective communication requires regular practice throughout life; It
is a process that parents and children convey what they want to transmit to each
other consciously or unconsciously. In this process, the mother is in an important
position that initiates the first communication with the child. In this study, it was
aimed to determine mothers’ perspectives on using effective communication
methods and their knowledge about ethical communication skills. Effective
communication methods were examined through mothers’ views in the study.
The study group consists of mothers of children aged 4-5 who attend nursery
school in an official primary school in Kadıköy district in Istanbul within the
2019-2020 academic year. Research data were collected by interview method
using semi-structured open-ended questions and questionnaires prepared by
the researchers. The research data were evaluated using descriptive analysis.
According to the research findings; It has been observed that mothers do not
have sufficient knowledge and awareness about using effective communication
methods. In addition, it was revealed that the mothers were not aware of the
communication language and behaviors they use with the idea of establishing
healthy communication with their children and it was suggested that mothers
should be given communication training to solve the problem.
