Table 1.2 presents the average annual values of 1 Azerbaijani Manat and
1000 Armenian Drams against the Georgian Lari. As can be seen in the
table, from 2012 to 2015, more than 2 Lari was needed to buy 1 Azerbaijani
Manat, and after 2016, the Lari strengthened against the Manat, largely
due to the above-mentioned decision of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan on
the transition to a floating exchange rate for its national currency. Despite
the devaluation
of the post-pandemic period,
the Lari has not reached
the 2012 exchange
level against the Manat,
and is floating steadily in
the 1.7-1.8 range. In the exchange rate of the Lari against the Armenian
Dram, between 2012 and 2022, the Lari depreciated
by approximately
63%. Where in 2012 roughly 4.11 Lari was needed to buy 1000 Armenian
Drams, in 2022 this number increased to 6.71 Lari. In the same period, the
Armenian Dram was the strongest among
the currencies of the region,
depreciating by only 8.4% against the Dollar, which in turn had an impact
on the exchange rate against the Lari.
