Logophonetic Writing
Logograph: A sign that stands for a whole word or for part of a word. (e.g. hieroglyphs) Phonetic: A system with signs
that stand for sounds (e.g. written language such as English) A logophonetic system is one that uses a combination of both
of these. In essence, there are two major types of signs, ones denoting morphemes and ones denoting sounds. Most of the
logophonetic systems are logosyllabic, meaning that their phonetic signs mostly denote syllables. An exception is Egyptian,
whose phonetic signs denote consonants.
