Level of knowledge of the problem. In world and Uzbek linguistics, a number of researches devoted to the study of explicit and implicit features of politeness have been carried out. In particular, we can cite the works of Sh. Iskandarova (1993), S. Mo’minov (2000), H.K.Turdiyeva (2020), M.Qodirova (2021), Al-shalawi (2001), P. Brown, and S. Levinson (1978), Z. Dienes, J. Perner (1999), N. Kitamura (2000), R. Lakoff (1973), R. Watts (2005), В.З.Демьянков (2006)2, as evidence.
The object of research:units representing politeness in written speech culture of English and Uzbek languages.
The subject of the research is the English and Uzbek units expressing politeness in the culture of written speech, in particular, the explicit and implicit characteristics of the politeness units used in e-mail messages.
The aim of the work:It consists of cross-research and scientific analysis of explicit and implicit features of politeness in written speech culture of English and Uzbek languages.
This aim determines the following tasks:
to study interpretation of the concept of "politeness" and to determine the explicit and implicit features of politeness category in linguistics;
to explore and describe the role of the category of politeness in written speech;
to provide a scientific justification of explicit and implicit forms of politeness in English and Uzbek written speech etiquette (based on the analysis of e-mail correspondence);
to do a contrastive analysis of politeness strategies in e-mails (based on English and Uzbek materials).
Research methods: conceptual analysis method, component analysis method, linguistic experiment method, linguistic description method, comparative, as well as semantic and functional analysis methods.
The novelty of the work: - when studying the category of politeness from the point of view of linguistics, its implicit and explicit features are determined;
- in researching explicit and implicit forms of politeness in English and Uzbek written speech etiquette, its phraseological features, morphological characteristics and syntactic features were deeply analyzed based on e-mail correspondence;
- the role of politeness strategies in writing emails was determined through the collected factual materials;
- politeness expressions and sentence frames in e-mails were divided into positive and negative types and analyzed.
