More than 25 alkaloids were isolated from the seeds of 
Haplophyllum perforatum
and their structure was studied. Different biological activities of the isolated alkaloids 
have been determined. For example, alkaloid skimmianine exhibits analgesic, sedative 
and estrogenic activities, haplophyllidine alkaloid is also of special importance due to 
its effect on the central nervous system, showing sedative and pain-relieving properties.
