Conclusion
This chapter concludes the analysis of the study. The goal of this thesis is to reveal the feminism as viewed via Gilbert's response in confronting the patriarchal practice in Eat, Pray, Love. Researcher makes use of the experiences of some of the women who undergo patriarchal practice in Eat, Pray, Love to find out feminism. The responses of Elizabeth Gilbert toward the patriarchal practices, which are undergone by means of her and ladies she met in the journey, expose the feminism. There are two major discussions of this research. The first one is the practice of patriarchy reflected in Eat, Pray, Love., and the second is the responses of Gilbert towards patriarchy which mirror the feminism.
Another dialogue is used for the introduction of each female characters in order to ease the reader to apprehend the characters. The researcher analyzes the novel and answers the formulated hassle furnished in the first chapter. In the first discussion, researcher gives the description about how the female characters which will be analyzed in 2d dialogue are depicted. As the result, there are 5 woman characters which analyzed. The first one is Gilbert. Gilbert is described as an indeppendent, strong, confident, educated, and clever woman. The 2nd personality is Gilbert’s mother. Gilbert mother is described as strong, but inferior wife. Next, researcher analyze Wayan’characteristic. As the result, Wayan is independent, kind, and hard worker woman. Then the description about Nyomo is that she is an unfriendly however kind lady, and also she is inferior. And the final one is Wayan’s sufferers are discribed as inferior and submissive women. In the 2nd discussion, it is divided into two section. The exercise of patriarchy in Eat, Pray, Love is divided into male superiority and domestic violence. In male superiority, there are four types of male superiority. The first one is undergone via Gilbert, the most important character. Her lack of knowledge husband lets her be the breadwinner and responsible for the family as well. Not only that, he makes Gilbert pays him a lot of money if she desires to be separated. The situations skilled by means of Gilbert suggests that she is being controlled through her husband. The 2d one is passed through by way of Wayan's patients. If Balinese female cannot have children, female are the one who takes the blame.10
It is triggered by means of the differentiation of organic sex makes male feels greater powerful, as the result, men may be ashamed to admit that they are infertile and will abuse, even worse, divorce their other halves if humans caught that they are infertile. The last one has passed through by using Nyomo. The male superiority which is passed through by her is that she is responsible to two households, the household of her own and the family of her husband's brother. It is due to the fact her brother in regulation does no longer have a spouse determine to take care of the household. That scenario indicates that women are section of men's property.
