3.7 International events
A teacher should develop the students’ linguistic competence together with the intercultural one.
Graduates of top universities considering options for making an international career should be able to
collaborate with ‘members of different national cultures…within a global economy’ [14, p. 3]. A modern
specialist striving to make an international career should be fluent in several languages and be flexible
enough to adapt to a new environment in a different culture. It helps to increase the overall
performance of such an employee and avoid possible conflicts stemming from intercultural differences
and different mindsets. In this connection, it is instrumental to provide for students’ open participation
in international events such as conferences, lectures and informal talks that are held in MGIMO on a
regular basis and are viewed as a great opportunity to create cultural and linguistic awareness among
future professionals.
