Yield Studies in Kazdağı Fır (Abies Equi-Trojani Aschers, Et Sinten)
This study comprises some features and relationships of forest yield in Kazdağı Fir (Abies equi-trojani Aschers, et Sinten) forests. The study has been implemented in the normal closed stands that more than 90 percent of their basal areas belong to Kazdağı fir species and that exist in the arounds of Gürgen and Eybek mountains of Kazdağı series.
The structures of stands have been investigated according to the variables of diameter, number of trees, height, density and site quality index or degree in 10 sample plots with the size of 40x40 m.
The frequency distribution relationships of diameter-number of tree have emerged in the shape of J-curve for various density and site quality values. The sequence of distribution curves of number of trees to the diameter classes has emerged in reverse order in contrast of the known as long as the site quality increases. It has been concluded that the reason of this was that thick diameter classes in good sites and thin diameter classes in bad sites in these stands have been applied intensive silvicultural treatments or the stands in bad sites have never been applied any silvicultural treatment. It may be said that these treatments made unconsciously break the natural structures of Kazdağı fir forests and decrease their volume increments.
The study will contribute to the planning and the management of Kazdağı fir forests. The wider and detailed yield and silviculture studies must be made on the Kazdağı fir forests.
