Solution of Harmonic Problems in Power Distribution Network
Increasing demand of electrical energy has been caused by power quality concept. One of the required conditions for safely operating electric power system and connected loads is sinusoidal waveform. However, nonlinear characteristic of loads causes undesired harmonics.
The active power filters are current method for reducing the harmonics that causes technical and economic problems in power systems. Obtaining current or voltage harmonics called reference signals and injecting produced harmonics to power system are steps of operating active power filters.
In this study, the circuit obtaining harmonics caused by nonlinear loads, is proposed. This circuit is an alternative method of reference signal estimation technique used in active power filter technology. Firstly, Phase Locked Loop (PLL) which has a low distortion sine wave output has been designed in this study. This PLL can follow not only phase of reference signal but also amplitude of input signal. Then harmonics have been obtained by subtracting produced fundamental component with PLL from distorted signal. In experimental studies, fundamental and harmonics components of distorted signals have been successfully seperated.
