The Inventory of The Benthic Invertebrate Collection in the Zoology Museum of İstanbul University
The aim of this study is to present the inventory of the benthic invertebrate collection of Zoology Museum in the Biology Department of Istanbul University Science Faculty.
The collection of the benthic invertebrates includes materials collected from the Mediterranean Sea, Aegean Sea, Black Sea and Marmara Sea between 1963 and 1971. This collection, which is made up of 1067 jars in total, is largely preserved in formaldehyde solution and some materials are kept in dry conditions. In the mean time with the inventory study, the preservation chemical of the appropriate materials were changed from formaldehyde solution to 70% alcohol solution. In this inventory study, the materials including label informations (location and date) which give the scientific importance, were primarily evaluated.
In this study; 669 jars with an original external label, 209 jars with inner labels and without external label, and 189 jars without any label were evaluated and at the end 7 phylum, 17 classis, 36 ordo, 75 familia, 45 genus and 18 species were determined.
