The Research of The Economic Importance of Cork Oak (Quercus suber L.) in Turkey
In this study, the economic importance of the cork oak was researched. The study’s emphasis was on the general information of the cork oak, the natural range of cork oak in the world, its contribution to the economies of countries where cork oak grows, the history of cork oak plantation projects in Turkey and the economic infrastructure of cork oak in Turkey. After research of subjects mentioned previously, a theoretical scenario was prepared for this study. Income and expenditure account of afforestation was calculated for the proper areas where cork oak can be grown in Turkey. In the research, 8 options concerning to labor force, mechanization-labor force and the spacings 4x4m, 5x5m, 8x4m and 6x6m were formed to calculate their profits. Consequently, the option of the spacings 5x5m, mechanization-labor force and 8x4m, mechanization-labor force gave the highest internal rate of return (IRR) with %11,19.
