Abstract
At the beginning of the 19th century, decision of Tsar Alexandr I on the
annexation of Eastern GeorgiaIt marked the beginning of a new phase in the history of
the South Caucasus. This act led to the occupation of Azerbaijani lands. The absence of
a strong state in Azerbaijan and the division of the country into small khanates
accelerated this occupation even more. The article discusses the study of the political
situation of North Azerbaijan in Turkish historiography in the late XVIII and early XIX
centuries, the political relations of the Azerbaijani khanates with the Ottoman, Iranian
and Russian states, as well as the beginning of the occupation of Northern Azerbaijan
by tsarist Russia. The struggle of the Azerbaijani people against the colonial regime, the
brutal extermination of civilians by the Russian military and the heroic defense of the
Ganja Khanate under the leadership of Javad Khan play an important role in the
historiography of Turkey. The article also reflects the attitude of Turkish historians
towards the occupation of the Karabakh, Sheki, Shirvan, Derbent khanates by tsarist
Russia. The article is covered by the works of Mehmet Saray, Sadik Mufit Bilge, Nedim
Ipek, Jamal Gokce, Naki Keykurun (Sheikhzamanli), Abdullah Saydam, Anyl Chechn,
Mustafa Budak and other Turkish historians. The source base of the problems is also
very rich. Documents from the Prime Minister of the Ottoman Archives (BOA) and
