Abstract : The written article is dedicated to the usage and teaching tecniques of idioms at the French
lessons. As is known idioms are a group of words that are used to denote something different than the separate
words it contains. So idioms are considered to be the main part of a spoken language as they play an important
part for enlarging word-stock of the appropriate language. In order to master the language well one should
know its idioms perfectly well. While teaching idioms at the French lessons both in the higher and secondary
schools a number of procedures are to be followed by the instructors and teachers. The article chiefly deals
with the definite methods of teaching idioms in the foreign languages. By using idioms of different theme
students make up situations, dialogues and monologues. It enables them to develop their communicative skills
and enlarge their outlook about the topic they learn. The above mentioned facts are predicated through the
examples taken from the phraseological and paremiological dictionaries.
