Abstract. Translation is an action that takes place between two languages. Furthermore, the translation
offers a synchronous relationship between national cultures, as well as carrying all of humanity's revealed
values throughout history. Orhan Kemal's novel El Kızı (The Foreigner's Daughter) , one of the works in
contemporary Turkish literature that communicates Anatolia's local culture, is a remarkable work in terms of
showing the difficulty in transferring local cultural elements to another language due to the folkloric elements
it contains. The goal of this study is to compare Orhan Kemal's novel El Kızı (The Foreigner's Daughter) and
the target text "
უცხო
ქალი
" (Ucxo Kali) using Peter Newmark's methods within the cultural element and to
disclose the translation strategy determinations. The novel in issue was translated into Georgian by Niko
Beridze and Brahim Goradze under the title "
უცხო
ქალი
" (Ucxo Kali). The translation techniques and
strategies of translation scientist P. Newmark's classification of cultural components will be used in the study's
theoretical framework. The cultural elements selected from the source text will be examined in the light of
methods and strategies as comparisons in the application section of the study, and the significance of which
translation strategies are included in the translation of cultural elements will be revealed by examining with
examples.
Although the target text's language is Georgian, the study is notable in that the translators include
cultural elements specific to the target text while conveying local cultural elements specific to the source text's
language, and that they take into account different equivalences from time to time and reveal the effect of their
own local culture.
