Theoretical information
Thermal treatment
refers to the process of processing objects made of metals
and alloys by means of heat in order to change their structure and properties in a
given direction.
Heat treatment
is one of the most common modern technical methods that
change the properties of metals and alloys. In metallurgical and machine-building
enterprises, heat treatment is one of the important links of technological processes
of production of zagotovka, semi-finished products and machine parts. Heat
treatment is an intermediate operation to improve the technological properties of
metals and alloys (workability by pressure, cutting and other methods), on the one
hand, and to provide metal and alloys with complex mechanical, physical and
chemical properties, on the other hand, to ensure the operational characteristics of
products at the required level. The last one is one of the operations. The theory of
heat treatment is a specific part of metallurgy. The most important task in metallurgy
is to study the laws of interrelation between the structure and technically important
properties of metals and alloys. During heating and cooling, the structure of the
metal material changes, which leads to changes in its mechanical, physical and
chemical properties.
