XIV. Esperanto and the Brotherhood of Humanity
The phrase Zamenhof used in Boulogne concerning “the creation of a brotherhood
of human beings from diverse ethnic groups” and his poetic call for the unity of all
religions, which was censored by the atheistic French leadership, alluded to the project
he wrote to Javal about after returning home from the congress:
This project, which I intend to show to the world sooner or later under the
name of “Hillelism” is the most important of all the work I have ever done
or will ever do. In itself, it presents in full fruition the idea to which I have
devoted my entire life; the whole Esperanto project is only a
