ENGINEERING AND ECOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES DIRECTED 
TO PREVENT THE SUFFOSION PROCESS ON THE COASTAL SLOPES OF THE 
SHAMKIRCHAI RESERVOIR

The main goal of our article is to study, research and analyze the processes that can occur 
along the coastal slopes of the Shamkirchay reservoir. The article provides information obtained as 
a result of research and observations from the moment the reservoir was commissioned, the study of 
the expected suffusion process on the basis of the soil dam of the Shamkirchay reservoir, as well as 
technical and economic data on the water basin. Along with this, the article discusses soil-erosion 
processes that can occur due to flooding of the lower pools of the reservoir. A number of possible 
engineering measures have been proposed that would help prevent possible damage from a cascade 
dam. 
The article also provides information on the evacuation processes (uprooting of trees and ro-
ots, transfer of cemeteries, changes in the location of roads and railways) during the construction of 
the reservoir, soil and soil works, as well as the stages of selecting the axis of the constructed soil 
dam.
