The Effect of Epibrassinolide on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth in Radish (Raphanus Sativus L.)
In this study, the germination percantage was calculated of radish seeds (Raphanus sativus L.) that germinated in different epibrassinolide (eBL) concentrations (10-5 M, 10-7 M, 10-9 M, 10-11 M), root and hypocotyl lengths. Pigment contents (chlorophyll, carotenoid, anthocyanin), peroxidase activities and membrane differantiations were determined at 10 days old seedlings.
It was shown that 10-7 M and 10-9 M eBL solutions have promotive effects on seed germination whereas 10-5 M eBL have inhibitory effect . During the seedling growth, root elongation was stimulated by 10-9 M eBL, inhibited by 10-5 M eBL. There was no significant difference on hypocotyl lenght. When 10-9 M eBL solution was heightened fresh weight of all organs, 10-11 M eBL, 10-5 M eBL ve 10-9 M eBL were heightened dry weight of root, hypocotyl and cotyledon, respectively. 10-7 M eBL was the most effective solution on chlorophyll content and 10-9 M eBL was the most effective on carotenoid content. When anthocyanin content was increased by 10-7 M eBL solution on hypocothyl, it was decreased by all the concantrations on cotyledon. It was thought that, the membrane permeability was protected by 10-9 M eBL ,by the results. 10-5 M eBL, was effective on hypocotyl and root protein content whereas 10-7 M eBL was effective on cotyledon. Peroxidase activity was stimulated by 10-7 M eBL, 10-5 M eBL ve 10-9 M eBL solutions respectively on root, hypocotyl and cotyledon.
