Carbon Capture and Storage includes various technologies developed
to mitigate unfettered emission of greenhouse gases into atmosphere. In
order to decrease amount of GHGs in atmosphere, substantial decrease in
carbon dioxide emissions (CO
2
) will be required by allowing to gather carbon
dioxide originated from burning of fossil fuels and to transport to geological
storage sites instead of emitting to the atmosphere. The main methods for
CO
2
capture are pre-combustion, post-combustion and oxyfuel combustion
by which it is possible to capture huge amount of CO
2
from power plants.
Captured CO
2
can be stocked as a gaseous phase in deep geological rocks,
liquid phase in oceans and solid which is formed from reaction between CO
2
and metal oxides producing stable carbonates. All these theoretical parts of
CCS method are investigated in detail in terms of the cost, advantages and
applicability of each stage. Further study about the simulation of CCS
reservoirs and the applicability of CCS method in Azerbaijan, its benefits will
be conducted.
