Attempts towards creation of the concept of Azerbaijan history
(1918-1920)
M.A. Rasulzadeh said in his speech entitled “History of Contemporary Azerbaijan”: “By the time of establishment of the National Republic of Azerbaijan on May 28, 1918, there had not been such a bright page in the history of contemporary Azerbaijan. Embryony of the contemporary Azerbaijan history was born early XIX century. Since that time, despite the difficult conditions in which Azerbaijani society has fallen, the mindset of the Middle Ages have been removed and turned to contemporary culture. In the same period, Azerbaijan, which was invaded by several feudal khanates, entered the international arena on May 28, 1918 as a united nation and announced the independence of the newly-established republic to the world. The historical background of modern Azerbaijan can be truly studied in the light of this great event”.
The declaration and implementation of Azerbaijan national independence provided a completely new insight in the history of Azerbaijan, and interest in history grew wide. It is noteworthy that the growing demand for the history of Azerbaijan in the late 1980s was oriented to the period of 1918-1920-es.
The literature on the ADR is not only a chronicle of the history of that period, but also a great achievement in the field of giving historical value to the events.
The emergence and domination of the Marxist view
towards the history of Azerbaijan (1920-1980-es)
Repression of science
Nationalization of history. In the name of ideology. Repression of historians
Nationalization of history. The Bolsheviks, who took power on April 28, 1920 upon the fall of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan, placed the history of Azerbaijan under the command of Bolshevik will and action. To this end, certain measures were taken to organize historical research (as discussed in "Scientific Centers for the Study of History in Azerbaijan").
Bolsheviks not only nationalized the history, but also launched repression against the intellectuals to ruin the history. Repression was: 1) covered under communist ideology, far removed from its true purpose; 2) historians were subjected to physical and moral repression.
