We can enlarge the list. I think these are enough yet to understand how challenging to interpret feelings, actions and
sentences even in one’s own language is. So there is no need to highlight how complicated task the translation process is.
On the whole, if you are competent in 2 languages then you can manage translation. But certainly if you aren’t professional
you’ll not be able to cope with slight things you encounter during the process. Little things, little translation mistakes can
cause major problems. “The world turns around interpreting”
There are difficulties in the process of proper translation. In order to translate properly we should distinguish between
knowing a language and being able to translate into or from it. Anyone can know English but not many can translate
normally. I want to mention 5 common mistakes translators do.
Translating word for word
Many translators make this mistake. But translators have to take syntactic and lexical rules into account.
Exaggerating the meaning of words
Beginner translators tend to overdo translation task as a result of inexperience. As they are stepping into this profession,
they want to give their best. However this is not appreciated when you are a professional translator. To effectively translate
a script it is important not to exaggerate it with complex sentences.
Using wrong words
Beginner translators use vocabulary in wrong context. There are certain words which cannot be translated into other
languages.
Lacking the communication skills
Translators could sometimes be poor communicators. They overlook the importance of effective communication and
therefore end up in poor translation. To establish good understanding with a client, it is important to engage with him in 2-
way communication. You need to interact with a client at every level of translation process. With a strong communication
channel, you can lower any misunderstandings with a client which will result in better translation.
5. Not translating in an appropriate style.
We have to be careful about the styling of the text. If we choose an inappropriate style to translate then it will change
the essence of the text. To convey real meaning of a topic it is important to translate a document in the right tone.
