Advanced foreign experiences show that structures operating
on the basis of cooperation
face many problems due to weak distribution of property rights. First, the volume of transactions
and the amount of investment in the cooperative do not directly affect the functions of management
and
control mechanisms, and secondly, the cooperative does not have
the opportunity to sell its
share at the market price when the participant leaves the membership. This weakens the interest of
agricultural entities to invest in the development of this form, but new
organizational models of
cooperatives can improve the distribution of property rights. These new organizational models of
the cooperative consist of elements such as the composition of ownership rights, management and
control
mechanisms, and the form of participation of each cooperative agent in its activities.
Supply agricultural cooperatives incur costs of price and resource quality,
and selling
cooperatives incur costs of searching for information about buyers—all of which are external
transaction costs and involve the costs of interacting with all external partners.
Also, there are costs associated with the cooperation, that is, its elements, which are: costs of
creating, maintaining and changing the
organizational model; variable costs of the organization.
In general, the analysis showed that the transaction cost value of a cooperative depends on
how the cooperative is organized and how efficient its ownership and management structure is.
