Abstract 
Turkic epics paint a vivid picture of the heroism, beliefs and thought of the 
Turkic peoples, as well as their prehistoric and posthistoric life. The epics of the 
Azerbaijani and Uzbek peoples reflect morality, psychology, traditions, national 
and cultural characteristics, the history of the struggle and the way of thinking of 
the Turkic peoples. The article discusses the image of a woman in the common 
heroic epics of the Azerbaijan and Uzbek peoples, as well as in the epics belonging 
only to the Uzbek people. 
Despite the differences in volume, narration and storyline in the Azerbaijani 
and Uzbek epics, and in general the common epics of the Turkic peoples, they 
usually have similar characteristics on issues related to the same socio-political

events and period, as well as personalities. These epics show show women's place 
in the history of Turkic culture. The types of women depicted in the epics, showing 
the place and value of women in society, help us to understand the position of 
Turkic women in the past, as well as to determine the role of women in the 
continuation of the life of society.

Giriş 
Türk halklarına mahsus destancılık sanatının çok eski ve zengin gelenekleri 
vardır. Bu destanlar Türk halklarının kahramanlıklarının, inançlarının ve düşünce 
tarihlerinin yanı sıra tarih öncesi ve tarih sonrası yaşamlarının canlı bir resmini 
çiziyor. Gazi Alim Yunusov, derlediği Alpamış Destanı’nın girişinde destan 
edebiyatının halk edebiyatındaki rolünden bahsederek yazıyor : “Destan, halk 
edebiyatındaki en önemli yere sahip. Destan kabile hayatının bütün unsurlarını en 
kolay ve anlaşılır şekilde anlatan edebî türdür. Türk-Özbeg (orijinal yazılış şekli) 
destanlarını bilmezsek, Türk boylarının çabaları, politik-ekonomik gayelerinin 
nedenleri, savaş yöntem ve kuralları, toplumlarındaki kahramanların karakterleri 
ve sosyal durumları, kısacası geçmiş hakkında bilgi edinemeyiz”(6, 5). Destanlarda
